Ruddy Duck 11/15/14

I finally got a picture of the ruddy duck that’s been hanging out in back of my house today.  We don’t normally see these in Sun City.   He swam fairly close to shore a few minutes ago, and I managed to get some of my own photos.
Thanks, Paul Padula

Black-bellied Whistling Ducks

We have lived here for 8 years and this is the first year for these ducks. Are they common to this area? They have been in and out of nest. No eggs. Cannot tell if they are male and female.

Above picture was sent to Helen Chatterton, President, who wrote,
"I just received this great photo from a resident.  I don’t believe this species has been reported in Sun City before.  Has anyone else seen them?"

Paul Padula replied, "Yes, I saw one in the lagoon on Cypress Hills Drive and Sun City Blvd, on the day of our June meeting."

Also from Paul:  Here is some good info, showing they use nesting boxes, and are in our general area.

From the Webmaster:
"I received the below pictures on 6/14/14 from Chester Park.  I regret that I was not able to post them immediately."

"Saw this pair on the pond off Rose Bush Lane yesterday 6/13/14.  Wikipedia said that they are rare for this area and thought your group might like some photo’s of them."
